The Comedy Carpet – Blackpool’s Giant Joke Book
Created by artist Gordon Young with designers Why Not Associates, the Comedy Carpet is one of Blackpool’s most striking landmarks. Set across 2,200m² of promenade space in front of the Tower, it’s built from more than 160,000 granite letters embedded in concrete.
The artwork celebrates comedy on a grand scale, featuring jokes, songs, and catchphrases from over 1,000 comedians and writers. From music hall to modern TV, it’s a tribute to the people who’ve made the nation laugh for generations.
