Firefighters Battle Major Blaze at Derelict Building in Blackpool’s South Shore
Emergency Response and Public Health Alert
The fire service confirmed the building contained a large amount of waste, making firefighting efforts complex. A spokesperson said:
“We strongly recommend that residents in the nearby area keep windows and doors shut and adhere to the safety cordons we have in place.”
Residents close to Kent Street are being urged to stay indoors and keep windows closed. Anyone who can see or smell smoke is advised to take precautions, especially those with existing respiratory conditions.
Road Closures & Travel Disruption
Blackpool Police have closed off several surrounding roads including Kent Street and Seasiders Way. The public are being asked to avoid the area entirely and to use alternative travel routes where possible.
Motorists and visitors heading into Blackpool are encouraged to plan ahead and consider nearby smoke-free areas such as attractions or local hotels and B&Bs away from the South Shore zone.
Latest Update (8:15 PM)
The blaze has now been extinguished, although firefighters and police remain on-site as a safety precaution. Local residents report the area is still heavily fogged with smoke, and access to Kent Street remains restricted.
Members of the public are urged to respect cordons and avoid non-essential travel near the South Shore district for the remainder of the evening.
